Hurricane Florence

Smithfield, NC –  It is critical people living in a low lying area or an area that is prone to flooding evacuate.  If you experienced flooding in Hurricane Matthew, it is expected you will experience flooding with Hurricane Florence.  It is highly likely that roads will be impassable with additional rains and river flooding.

Impacts from Hurricane Florence are expected to be felt in Johnston County beginning Thursday afternoon.  As the storm gets closer to our area, impacts will continue to amplify.  Damaging winds, heavy rain, and flooding are likely.  These weather conditions are likely to cause downed trees, potential loss of water service caused by water line breaks, and power outages that could last for several days.
