Iowa 80 Mills Receives Industry Appreciation Award

Smithfield NC – On Monday, the Johnston County Commissioners and the Johnston County Economic Development Advisory Board recognized the Iowa 80 Group, better known as Kenly 95 PETRO of Kenly for their commitment to Johnston County and community support by honoring the company with the County’s “Industry Appreciation” award. This award is presented quarterly to Johnston County Industries. “78% of all jobs created come from Existing Industries and Businesses and they are extremely important to the economic strength of Johnston County”, stated Jeff Carver, Chairman of the Johnston County Board of Commissioners. “Today we are honored to recognize the Iowa 80 Group, their commitment to providing excellent jobs and continued support of our communities”. The Iowa 80 Group was founded by Bill & Carolyn Moon in 1964, and is now operated by their son and daughter Will and Delia. In addition to the Kenly location, the Iowa 80 Group, located in Walcott, Iowa operates 3 other major Truckstop facilities in Iowa and Missouri, including the Worlds' Largest Truckstop in Walcott, IA. The current location was purchased in 2004 from Don Stallings and the Iowa 80 Group immediately embarked on a five year plan to take the Kenly location to the next level. After a series of small upgrades, they began a major upgrade, doubling the size of the main building from 18,000 sq. ft. to 35,000 sq. ft. It has approximately 190 part and full time employees, and has an annual payroll in excess of $4 million dollars and entertains close to 1 million guests annually. Along with the various fuel products they offer, it is also home to: The Iron Skillet Restaurant, Wendy's, Subway, Dairy Queen and Caribou Coffee “Ernie Brame and his staff at the Kenly 95 PETRO are steadfast supporters of the northern tier of Johnston County, the Town of Kenly and the Kenly Chamber of Commerce,” expressed Johnston County Commissioner Ted Godwin. “We are proud of their investment here in Johnston County.” According to General Manger Ernie Brame, the Kenly location currently has revenues approaching $50 million each year, and remits more than $2 million in taxes ranging from motor fuel taxes, sales, payroll, and property taxes. They also own a chain of truck washes, and CAT Scales, a nationwide network of Certified Truck Scales. During his remarks to the Commissioners, Mr. Brame stated that the Moon family is very pleased and honored to be recognized by Johnston County and indicated continued growth is in the future. In closing, he declared “the best is still yet to come.” Further information about the Iowa 80 Group and Kenly 95 PETRO, visit www.Iowa80group.com or www.Kenly95.com.
