We are proud of the Riverwood Middle School Envirothon Team, called ‘Colorful Turtles’, which placed 3rd out of 30 middle school teams at the regional qualifying Area IV Envirothon held recently in Nash County.  The team will advance to the State Envirothon competition and represent Johnston County’s only middle school at the event.  Two high school teams from Johnston County will also advance to the State Envirothon on April 29 and 30 which are from West Johnston High School.   These teams represent the top 7 teams out of a total of over 50 teams competing at the regional event.  The Envirothon is a team  challenge where students compete in their knowledge of environmental science topics such as soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatics and current issues and is sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.   Winning teams are eligible to receive cash prizes and scholarships.  Next year, the Johnston Soil and Water Conservation District will host the regional qualifying competition at the Johnston County Ag Center in Smithfield in late March.
