New Smoking Law for NC Restaurants and Bars
A Law to MakeNC Restaurants and Bars Smoke-freeEffective January 2, 2010 a law went into effect to make N C Restaurants and Bars smoke free. The goal of the enforcement process is to gain compliance with the law through education. The local health department has the responsibility to enforce this law within each county.
Recording Complaints for Potential ViolationsNC Office of Citizen Services, CARE-LINE logs the complaints from the public of potential violations via the toll-free line at 1-800-662-7030. Calls will be logged 7 a.m. - 11 p.m., seven days a week. Callers between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. may leave a message and the call will be returned. Division of Public Health (DPH)/Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch (TPCB) will monitor and collect the complaints through on-line complaint www.smokefree.nc.gov. and forward the complaints on a weekly basis to each county. Upon receiving complaints from the Division of Public Health, the Johnston County Environmental Health Office will contact the establishment regarding the complaint. The Complainant may provide his or her name and contact information or remain anonymous. The name of the establishment and time of occurrence will be documented as part of the needed information.
