Identity Theft

Identity theft happens to a person every 3 seconds in the US. Johnston County Register of Deeds Craig Olive has completed historical redaction processes for over 6 million images, safeguarding personal information such as driver’s license and social security numbers in Johnston County’s public records. The software flagged approximately 30,000 images for redaction in the records. The office will continue to monitor and redact future documents.  Recently, Olive joined forces with Senator David Rouzer in making the removal of personal information in North Carolina public records a state law. “I am thrilled that sensitive public information is now safeguarded from the public. I will continue to strive to protect the public’s interest and push for legislation that focuses on redaction efforts in my office, in Johnston County, and throughout the state of North Carolina,” Olive said.
