In the Middle School competition, McGee's Crossroads Middle School teams, the Bodacious Baboons won third place and the Enviromen placed fifth. At the high school level, the West Johnston High School 'Sequoias' came in second place after winning first place for the past two years. These winnings are quite notable in that the competition is very fierce among the teams. The Envirothon Program is the largest environmental education competition in North America where students compete in the their knowledge of the natural environment and current issues. For the past two years, the West Johnston's "Sequoias" have represented North Carolina in the North American competition in Flagstaff, AZ and Asheville, NC where they placed 8th and 2nd place respectively.
