Additional Items Banned at Johnston County Landfill

Smithfield , NC --  Effective October 1, 2009 plastic bottles, oil filters, and wooden pallets will be banned from disposal at all North Carolina Landfills.

To comply with the new bans, the Johnston County Solid Waste Division will be offering recycling options for these waste materials. 

·        Plastic bottles and oil filters will be collected at the County Landfill and the County Convenience Sites. 

·        Wooden pallets will be collected at the County Landfill Yard Waste Facility for a fee.

Solid Waste Division Staff will be spot checking waste loads for non-compliance and will be acting accordingly.
