Materials Loans and Rentals
The Library loans out the following items:
- Printed books
- Audio books
- Music CDs
- Movies (DVDs and videos)
A library card
is required to borrow materials from the Library. The
library card policy
describes how to obtain a library card.
Book Loans
Patrons may have up to 20 items checked out
at a time. Most books are loaned for three weeks with the exception of seven-day
books which are marked as such. New and bestselling books are subject to a
seven-day checkout period, and are renewable as long as another patron does not have a hold
placed on the book.
Up to 10 CDs and audio books for adults, and up to three children's audio books, can
be borrowed at once. Holiday books can be borrowed three at a time during holidays.
Movie Rentals
Up to 10 videos and DVDs can be rented at a time. Generally movies cost $1.00 per movie
to rent for seven days with no renewals. However, you can rent between 14 and 28 movies
for the price of 10 by using a Movie Plus card.
Movie Plus Cards
Movie Plus cards can be purchased at the circulation desk for
$10.00 each. You can rent a minimum of 14, and up to 28, videos with each card.
With a Movie Plus card, you pay for 10 videos and you get four free.
When you use the card on Mondays, you get two movies for the price of
one. This doubles the value of your card.
Each time you borrow a movie, we punch a circle on the card. Movie Plus cards reduce
your rental fees while helping the library to purchase additional items. Movie Plus
cards are good for you and good for the library! They also make great gifts!
Returning Borrowed Materials
All movies checked out must be returned to the Smithfield library.
Books and audio CDs may be returned to any library in Johnston County.
Overdue Fines
- Printed books are $.25 per day, per book.
- Audio books, music CDs, and movies are $.50 per day, per item.
Replacement Library Cards
Replacement Library Cards are $2.00 each. If you have lost yours
then you may purchase a replacement at the
circulation desk.
