Keep Johnston County Beautiful, Inc. is a community-based, non-profit organization
dedicated to the improvement and protection of the natural and historic resources
in Johnston County. It was organized into a non-profit in 1978, and is comprised
of members and volunteers throughout Johnston County.

Adopt-a-Highway Program
The North Carolina Department of Transportation established the Adopt-A-Highway (AAH)
program in 1988 in response to growing public concern regarding litter along
the highways. The AAH program is a joint effort between community volunteers and
the NCDOT.

Environmental Contests and Awards
There are several contests and awards at national, state, and county levels for
individual and groups who are promoting awareness of recycling and environmental
issues.
Environmental Contests for Students
The Johnston County Soil and Water Conservation District sponsors several poster and
essay contests on environmental issues throughout the year for local students.
