PROVIDED BY THE UNC SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT
March 5, 2020
Smithfield, NC -- Johnston County Commissioner R.S. “Butch” Lawter, Jr. successfully completed the Advanced Leadership Corps (ALC) training offered annually to select county and municipal elected officials by the School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
ALC is a weeklong program designed by the School’s Center for Public Leadership and Governance. This residential program is a dynamic experience that helps participants learn about their own leadership styles, inspire others to work toward a shared vision, and gain insights into how to work together to build better relationships and achieve far-reaching results. More than 125 municipal and county elected officials from across North Carolina have completed this selective program since its inception.
When asked to share his thoughts on the training, Commissioner Lawter said “It was a very focused week of training. We learned about our personalities and leadership styles through personal assessments and feedback from our peers. We received training in public speaking and more importantly active listening. I feel this training from the UNC School of Government has provided me with the skills and abilities to more effectively lead Johnston County in my role as County Commissioner.“
Generous financial support from Prudential Financial allows elected officials from across the state to attend with only modest cost to the local unit of government.
