Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield Closing Until Further Notice to Mitigate Spread of COVID-19

The Board of Trustees of the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield have decided that the library will be closed until further notice to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Due to the rapidly changing nature of this public health crisis, the Library feels it is best to keep our reopening date open-ended. We hope you understand and we will update you as soon as possible.

Due dates on checked out physical materials will be extended until after we reopen. So please don’t worry about returning your materials.

We have also decided that we are suspending all in-person public programs and events through the end of April. Obviously, it is deeply disappointing for us to postpone these exciting and important events, and unsettling to have such an unclear picture of the next few months. It continues to be a difficult decision, but we know we are doing what is necessary for the health and wellness of Johnston County and Smithfield. We will get through this uncertainty if we work together.

Even though we are closed, we are working on new and creative ways to serve our public. We are always updating our Facebook with new crafts and fun activities you can do with your family. We have created a Temporary Virtual Library Card for new library patrons. This card will allow you to use our databases and checkout online resources.

I want to thank you for your flexibility and patience as we work through this unprecedented situation. Please stay safe, and be well. If you have any questions, I can be reached at 919-934-8146.
