Moderna Bivalent Booster Vaccines Currently Unavailable at the Johnston County Public Health Department
For immediate release: September 22, 2022
Smithfield, NC – The Moderna bivalent booster is currently unavailable at the Johnston County Public Health Department due to manufacturer shipping delays. The Health Department anticipates receiving shipments by the first week of October. More information will be made available to the public once the Moderna bivalent boosters are back in stock at the Health Department.
The Health Department began offering Moderna bivalent booster vaccines earlier this month at the clinic on 517 N. Brightleaf Blvd., Smithfield, N.C. Pfizer bivalent boosters are still available to individuals seeking an updated COVID-19 booster. The Pfizer bivalent boosters are approved for those 12 and older and the Moderna bivalent boosters are approved for individuals 18 and older. Both boosters may be received two months after completing a primary vaccine series or any booster dose. An individual may take any brand of booster available to their age group regardless of the brand of COVID-19 vaccine they have received in the past.
The bivalent boosters are formulated to better protect against the most recently circulating COVID-19 variant. They can help restore protection that has waned since previous vaccination and were designed to provide broader protection against new variants
Vaccines are distributed at the Health Department on a walk-in basis and are free regardless of health insurance or immigration status. Vaccinations are available Monday- Friday from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. and on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.
