Johnston County Hosting Summer Events to Help Veterans Access VA Services

Smithfield, N.C. - The Johnston County Veterans Services Office will host special outreach events this summer to assist veterans in creating ID.me and LOGIN.GOV accounts. These secure login credentials are now required by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to access online applications, benefits information, and other digital services.

Veterans who need help setting up these accounts are encouraged to attend one of the scheduled events. Staff from the Johnston County Veterans Services Office will be onsite to provide one-on-one assistance and answer any questions.

  • June 13 and 14
    10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

What to Bring

To complete account setup, veterans should bring the following:

  • Two forms of identification (either two primary documents, or one primary and one secondary)

    Examples of primary documents

    • Driver’s license
    • U.S. passport
    • Other government-issued photo ID

    Examples of secondary documents

    • Social Security card
    • Utility bill
    • Vehicle registration

  • Personal email address and password

  • Social Security number

  • Personal cell phone or tablet

 

These documents and tools are necessary for secure identity verification and successful account creation.

“We want to make sure every veteran in Johnston County has the tools they need to access their benefits online,” said Robert Boyette, Director of Johnston County Veterans Services. “Our team is here to help make the process as simple and straightforward as possible. These events are designed to provide hands-on support so our veterans can get connected with the services they've earned without the frustration of navigating the system alone."
