National Fire Prevention Week | Fire Is...
1. Fire is Dark
Fires start as bright flames, but as they grow, they fill the room with THICK, BLACK, SMOKE creating darkness.
2. Fire is Hot
It might seem obvious, but fire can get REALLY, REALLY HOT. When a fire is raging in a room, it can exceed 1,000 degrees F.
3. Fire is Fast
Once a fire gets going, it can spread QUICKLY AND EASILY. In only a few minutes it can fill a room with thick, black smoke.
4. Fire is Deadly
Flames can BURN, and smoke can be TOXIC. After two and a half minutes, the heat and smoke can cause a FLASHOVER.
What is a Flashover?
A flashover is when the heat and smoke become so intense in a room that it all BURSTS INTO FLAMES!
