STD Facts

STDs are spread during sexual activities and many people do not have symptoms therefore infecting their partners without knowing it.

Serious consequences such as sterility, heart disease, insanity, and paralysis can occur from untreated or recurrent infections.

STDs can be passed on to the unborn child during pregnancy.

STDs can be prevented by abstinence, condoms, and a monogamous (one-partner) sexual relationship.

Early testing and treatment can help stem the spread of the diseases and also limit development of long term problems. Most but not all STDs can be cured with the right medications. However, all sexual partners need to be evaluated.
