2022-2023 Conservation Education Contests

The Johnston Soil & Water Conservation District is sponsoring Conservation Poster, Essay and Public Speaking Contests this year!

The theme for 2022-2023 is "Water...The Cycle of Life".

This is your opportunity to get creative and explore what our theme means to you and our County/State.

Who is eligible? Any public, private, charter or home-schooled Johnston County student. 

Poster Contest: 3rd-5th grades may participate in the poster contest. Deadline: Entries for poster contest are due to the District office no later than 5:00pm on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. Poster submissions may be dropped off Monday thru Thursday, 8am to 5pm and Friday, 7:30 to 4:30pm, before or on the due date at the Johnston County Agricultural Center, 2736 NC Hwy. 210, Suite B, Smithfield, NC 27577. Essay Contest: 6th, 7th, 8th and 9-12th (9-12th grades compete together in a single competition) grade student may participate in the Essay Contest. Deadline: Entries for essay contest are due to the District office no later than 5:00pm on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. Essay submissions may be dropped off Monday thru Thursday, 8am to 5pm and on Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm, before or on the due date at the Johnston County Agricultural Center, 2736 NC Hwy. 210, Suite B, Smithfield, NC 27577. Public Speaking Contest: 6th-8th; 9-12th (9-12th grades compete together in a single competition) grade students may participate in the Public Speaking Contest. Those who wish to compete in the public speaking contest are asked to reach out to Annette Adams no later than 5 pm on January 19, 2023. Students will speak before a panel of judges at a date and time to be determined at the Johnston County Agricultural Center. Prizes for each contest: 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners in the County contest will receive a Certificate and monetary prize. The 1st place winner will be eligible for the Area IV contest.
