PUBLIC HEARING
PROPOSED JOHNSTON COUNTY BUDGET
Fiscal Year 2026-2027
Pursuant to NCGS § 159-12, the Johnston County Board of Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on the proposed 2026-2027 County Budget on Monday, June 1, 2026 at the 10:00 a.m. regular meeting held in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room, Johnston County Courthouse, 207 E. Johnston Street, Smithfield, NC 27577. The hearing will begin immediately following the Public Comment section held at the beginning of the meeting (10:00 a.m.), or as soon thereafter as possible. The purpose of the Public Hearing is for the County Manager to present the proposed budget and solicit public comment.
A copy of the proposed budget has been submitted to the Board and is available in the Office of the Clerk to the Board for public inspection. The Office of the Clerk to the Board is located at the Johnston County Courthouse, 207 E. Johnston Street, Smithfield, North Carolina 27577 Room B-206, ph. (919) 989-5100. The proposed budget can also be downloaded from the County’s website at www.JohnstonNC.gov/commissioners (see Public Notices). Citizens who would like to address the Board regarding this hearing but do not wish to physically attend this meeting may e-mail any comments to Clerk to the Board Dana Cuddington at dana.cuddington@johnstonnc.gov by Friday, May 29, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. The Chairman will submit those comments during the hearing. The meeting will be live streamed through YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/jocogovnc.

NOTICE OF MEETINGS
Fiscal Year 2026-2027 County Budget Discussions
Johnston County Board of Commissioners
Please be advised that the Johnston County Board of Commissioners will be discussing and considering adoption of the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 County Budget as part of the agendas during regularly scheduled meetings, as follows:
- Monday, May 18, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. (County Manager to present initial proposed budget to the Board during this meeting.)
- Monday, June 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. (Formal Public Hearing as part of this regular meeting for the 2026-2027 Proposed County Budget to allow for public comment on the proposed budget.)
- Monday, June 1, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. (The Board will further discuss the proposed budget as part of the agenda during this meeting and allow anyone present that wishes to address the Board to speak on the proposed budget.)
- Monday, June 15, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. (The Board will further discuss and consider adoption of the budget as part of the agenda of this regular meeting.)
It is anticipated that the Board of Commissioners may adopt the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 County Budget at the June 15th meeting; therefore, anyone wishing to address the Board regarding the County Budget is encouraged to attend the May 18th or June 1st meetings. Citizens that wish to address the Board regarding the proposed budget but have concerns with physically attending the meetings may e-mail their comments to Clerk to the Board Dana Cuddington at dana.cuddington@johnstonnc.gov. The Chairman will submit those comments during the meeting.
These meetings will be held in the Commissioners Meeting Room located in the Johnston County Courthouse at 207 E. Johnston Street, Smithfield, NC. The meetings will be live streamed through YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/jocogovnc. Please be advised that the Board may discuss and consider final fiscal year budget revisions and other related budgetary matters at any of these meetings. Nomination Period for Johnston County
Board of Social Services
The North Carolina Social Services Commission will make an appointment to the Johnston County Board of Social Services. The Social Services Commission will consider nominations at a future meeting.
The nomination period is scheduled from May 4, 2026, to June 4, 2026. Nominations must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on June 4, 2026. You may obtain a Nomination Form from the local department of social services office (DSS). The form must be fully completed by the nominee, signed, dated, and returned. Forms may be mailed, faxed, or emailed to the address below.
