APPOINTMENT OF COUNTY COMMISSIONER
REPRESENTING COUNTY COMMISSIONER DISTRICT 3
Please be advised that the Johnston County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications from interested citizens to be considered for appointment as a Johnston County Commissioner representing County Commissioner District 3 that is currently vacant. Pursuant to North Carolina General Statute 153A-27, to be eligible for appointment to fill a vacancy, a person must be a member of the same political party and be a resident of the same district as the member being replaced; therefore, applicants must be a registered Republican and reside within County Commissioner District 3. See links below for the Application and Interactive Map of the Johnston County Commissioner Districts for the District 3 vacancy to verify residency within County Commissioner District 3 before applying. Any citizen that wishes to be considered must submit an application with accompanying resume to the following address:

The deadline to submit applications is Friday, October 25, 2024 by 3:00 PM. Applications will be date/time stamped at the time of receipt. Applications may be mailed via U.S. Mail; however, it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their application is received no later than 3:00 PM on October 25th. Applications received after 3:00 PM on October 25th will not be accepted, regardless of the reason. Application forms are available in the Clerk to the Board’s Office, Johnston County Courthouse, 207 E. Johnston Street, Room B-206, Smithfield, 919-989-5100 or may be downloaded at the link below.
It is anticipated that the Johnston County Board of Commissioners will take action to fill the vacancy for the unexpired term in Commissioner District 3 at its meeting on November 18, 2024 with oath of office and service beginning on December 2, 2024.
