The Johnston County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing, to be held in the Commissioners’ meeting room, Johnston County Courthouse Annex, Smithfield, N.C., on Monday, January 20, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as possible for the purpose of receiving public comment on the proposed Unified Development Ordinance.

PUBLIC NOTICE
FEBRUARY APPOINTMENTS
The Johnston County Board of Commissioners will be considering the following upcoming appointments. Please note the deadline to apply is January 20, 2026. Applicants must be a resident of Johnston County.
Economic Development Advisory Board – 4 positions; 2 year terms. One position will be appointed from each of the following areas of representation: Town of Micro, Town of Kenly and Town of Wilson’s Mills. The remaining position is an at-large member. (Applications received for the Town areas will be forwarded to the respective Town Council for a recommendation. Final appointments will be made at the Johnston County Board of Commissioners April 6, 2026 meeting.)
Firefighters Relief Fund Boards of Trustees – 2 year terms. There is 1 position available for each of the following Fire Districts: Beulah, Boon Hill, Brogden, Elevation, 50/210, McLemore, Micro, North Side, O’Neals, Shoeheel, Wilson’s Mills and Wynn.
Johnston County Board of Health – 2 positions; 3 year terms (One position representing Nurse and one position representing General Public).
Johnston County Planning Board – 5 positions; 3 year terms.
Juvenile Crime Prevention Council – 4 positions; 2 year terms. Applicants must represent one of the following areas: Chief of Police, member of business community, and two individuals under the age of 21).
Livestock Arena Management Board – 2 positions; 2 year terms.
Pleasant Grove Community Building Board of Trustees – 4 positions; 2 year terms.
Nursing Home/Adult Care Home Community Advisory Board – 15 positions; 1 year term for new appointees or 3 year terms for reappointed members. “No person or immediate family member of a person with a financial interest in a home served by a committee, or an employee or governing board member of a home served by a committee, or immediate family member of a patient in a home served by a committee may be a member of a committee.”
Tourism Authority – 1 position to fill unexpired term ending 10/31/2026. (Applicants must not own or operate a hotel, motel, or other taxable tourist accommodation.)
Veterans Services Advisory Board – 2 positions; 3 year terms. Eligible applicants must be Veteran and reside within one of the following Johnston County Board of Commissioner Districts: District 2, District 4. One position will be appointed to represent each District.
Johnston County Citizens wishing to be considered may submit a short application form to the Clerk to the Board, P.O. Box 1049, Smithfield, North Carolina 27577 by January 20, 2026.
