Town of Clayton & Parks and Recreation Department Revamp Municipal Park
Clayton’s oldest and most highly-used park is Municipal Park on McCullers Street close to downtown. Today (December 9th) marks a groundbreaking effort to reshape the park to accommodate the needs of a larger population and new opinions from the massive influx of those migrating from across the country. With Raleigh becoming one of the fastest-growing cities in the US and Clayton being one of the primary suburban destinations, advancements in the recreation facilities available are a smart bet to cope with this progress.
Plans for the park’s amenities include:
- Playground
- Splash Pad
- Basketball Court
- Futbol/Soccer Field
- Small and Large Picnic Shelters
- Large, Central Open Space (Event Lawn)
- Band Shell/Stage
- Walking Track
- Food Truck Parking Area
- Greenway Connection to Sam’s Branch Greenway
- Additional Street Parking
The new Municipal Park is going to be the premier destination for the town. Events, music/concerts, marathons, sports, and so much more are planned for when the park aims to be completed in May 2022. Passing a public vote with 74% speaks wonders about the residents’ wants & needs for their views and future developmental direction of the town. Some of the stakeholders involved include the Town Council, the Mayor, Town Manager, the Park & Recreation Advisory Board, Caterpillar, Balfour Beatty, McAdams, and the Park & Recreation Department.
The future looks bright for the municipal park and this is just one of the steps being taken to please the public and bring more community-based actions to the Town of Clayton.
