New Directors in North Carolina's Trail System Organizations (East Coast Greenway Alliance & Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail)

These past two months have been monumental and heartfelt for North Carolina's state trail systems: the East Coast Greenway (also a national trail system) and Mountains-to-Sea Trail. The organizations that build and manage these systems have both hired new directors to fill the shoes of past directors Sarah Sanford (ECG Alliance; NC & VA Coordinator) and Kate Dixon (Friends of the MST). These two directors have done wonders for our state and have helped make our trail systems state-of-the-art and extensive, along with being sought out & used vigorously by users nationwide. They will both be missed tremendously, but have expressed great faith and pleasant feedback regarding their replacements to come.

These two coordinator positions plus a new position are being filled by:

  • Andrew Meeker - North Carolina Coordinator for East Coast Greenway Alliance (Look here for more information)
  • Brent Laurenz - Executive Director for the Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (Look here for more information)
  • Betsy Brown - Associate Director of the Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail

These three new directors/coordinators have years of experience in multiple different fields that will help them continue the organization's work towards creating iconic trail systems for our states. We at Johnston County Parks and Open Space are looking forward to helping to finish our trail system with new extensions and increased support from our commissioners and residents.

With that, we say welcome and we look forward to meeting you all in the near future.
