Friends of Johnston County Parks hosts First Trail Workday

The Friends of Johnston County Parks was designated as the Mountain to Sea Trail's ( referred to as the "MST" from now on) Task Force Leader for Johnston County back in September 2023 by the Friends of the MST group. This designation puts the Friends group in charge of maintaining the MST alignment throughout Johnston County, which is about 50 miles in total. The first project area that the Friends group started to work with is the Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site. The historic site has 6 miles of trails that are part of the MST, part of the Coastal Crescent Loop segment of the MST.

The Friends of Johnston County Parks hosted their first trail workday on March 23rd, 2024 in Bentonville Battlefield's Cole Plantation Trail. A mile of trail was cleared of debris and there were about 15 volunteers who showed up to help out. This is the first of many trail workdays to come and volunteers are welcome to sign up through the following link (https://forms.gle/1su1rXfiPedP6R2Y9) to volunteer in the future.

We appreciate all the support we have received from the community and from our volunteers. The Friends group is a great asset to the county and plays a vital role in providing community engagement events through our department.
