Johnston County Board of Elections to Host Voter Photo ID Event

Smithfield, NC – The Johnston County Board of Elections will open its office outside of regular business hours to help voters comply with new photo identification requirements. A "Voter Photo ID Event' will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Board of Elections Office, located at 205 S. Second Street, Smithfield, N.C. The Voter Photo ID event is free and no appointment is necessary.
Beginning in the 2023 municipal elections, North Carolina voters will be required to show photo ID. Most voters will simply show their driver's license, but there are many other acceptable forms of photo ID. The list of acceptable forms of ID can be found on the State Board of Elections' website.
Only eligible voters who reside in Johnston County will be able to receive a voter photo ID at the event. Voters will need to provide their name, date of birth, and the last four digits of their social security number on a request form, which will be provided.
