Winter Weather Preparedness General Information

 As we begin to feel the effects of the winter season, the threats and dangers of colder weather and winter storms drastically increase. To help you and your loved ones weather through the cold weather, here are some preparedness and safety tips to keep in mind.

 1. Dress appropriately for the weather; add layers to keep warm.

 2. Gather emergency supplies for your home and vehicle.

 3. Watch the weather forecast, especially before going outside or traveling.

 4. Check in on the elderly, ill, or disabled. Help them prepare for the weather.

 5. Keep your pets warm and dry, especially if they're outdoors.

 6. Avoid hypothermia. Stay warm, stay dry, and limit time outdoors.

 7. Keep a water supply. Pipes can freeze or break during colder weather.

 8. Never walk or drive on ice. Cover icy patches with kitty litter or rock salt.
