Soil and Water Conservation

Johnston County, North Carolina

CW Warrick Memorial Scholarship

The C. W. Warrick Memorial Scholarship is administered and presented by the Johnston Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors. The late Mr. C. W. Warrick came to Johnston County with the USDA Soil Conservation Service in 1940. His loyalty, interest and dedication as Work Unit Conservationist contributed greatly to the conservation effort in Johnston County and has left real lasting imprints. Mr. Warrick's name became synonymous with the conservation of soil and water resources. Upon his death, his family gave the Board of Supervisors a fund to be used in his name to continue the effort.

Eligibility

Any Johnston County citizen student who has a financial need and who has demonstrated academic success and agricultural leadership through activities in the FFA and 4-H and is recommended to the selection committee by the school counselor, Vocational Agriculture Teacher and/or 4-H Club Leader. The candidate must have plans to continue his or her education in the field of Agriculture, Agriculture Education, Forestry, Wildlife, Natural Resources, Veterinary Medicine or other related field of study.

Purpose

It is the mandated duty and responsibility of the Board of Supervisors of the Johnston Soil and Water Conservation District to promote, encourage and nurture the conservation of all the natural resources within the District. The Board feels the best way to build continuity into its program of conservation is through an effective education program. The District is involved in Education contests for the County which involves fifth through ninth grade students, as well as Envirothon Program which involves middle and high school students. Therefore, we feel it appropriate to use proceeds of this memorial fund to sponsor a scholarship for a deserving high school senior to continue education beyond high school level.
